John Arndt, Director of Admission, St. Bernard Preparatory School
(Cullman, AL) joined us to talk about how St. Bernard's became a boarding school and its current mission.
St. Bernard is a relatively young boarding school- 24 years- that grows out of a long storied history. Mr. Arndt, explains the 1984 decision by the Abbey's monks and alumni to open a boarding school in 1984 this way, boarding school "had always been in their (the monks') blood." Before the opening the boarding school the Benedictine monastery pursued an educational mission as a middle school, high school, junior college and four year college.
St. Bernard's enjoys all the consistency and benefits of small school with 125 boarders and dormitory parents who have been with the school since 1986. St. Bernard's added 7th and 8th grades for day students in 2008
