Keeping Boarding School Families and Alumni Connected During the Holidays

Trinity-Pawling School Annual Candlelight Service.

If you’re a boarding school, or private school, alumnus you probably have some strong memories around particular annual events, rites of passage, or school rituals that continue resonating with you as an adult. It’s interesting to see schools keeping alumni connected by bringing these events to their alumni through live streaming. Livestreams are also great windows for current parents.

I got my alumni ‘warm fuzzy’ earlier this week from my alma mater- Trinity-Pawling School- when I received the email announcing the live streaming of the school’s annual candlelight service- Community Gathers for Traditional Candlelight Service this evening at 5 PM Eastern Time (click the story link for the webcast link).

The age-old tradition has been part of the Trinity-Pawling community since 1938. Modeled after the traditional service at King’s College, Cambridge, candlelight and greenery fill All Saints’ Chapel as the choir, organ, and brass lead the congregation in carols of the season. (Trinity-Pawning)

At Christmas time, alumni of schools with a Christian affiliation often reminisce about their alma mater’s Christmas dinner or service. Communities come together; special services planned; special meals planned; and, often, participates in a community service or outreach program…everyone feels connected; has an interest in being and working together; and, celebrates a milestone in the faith.

There is reflection, celebration, kindness, giving, and common purpose.

Admittedly, I won’t be able to watch. We’ve got split duty this evening at our house. One of us will be at a basketball game; the other at a choir concert. But, just the opportunity to click and remember has had an effect on me.
