Like a Band of Gypsies …
Down the highway we go… running through airports, jostling for taxis, checking in and out of hotels; fumbling for passports and boarding passes, checking playlists and adjusting headphones. Scrambling to text while ordering another coffee to keep us focused on the road ahead.
Sound familiar?
If so, there is a good chance that you are a boarding school Admissions person. It is travel season for the hundreds of Admissions directors and their designates. From Denver to Dubai, from Victoria to the Vietnam, you can find us anywhere. We travel globally to spread the gospel about our schools; attending fairs and meeting with families and prospective students.
My school, Brentwood College School, has students from well over 30 countries around the world; many of these students I first met during my travels. In order to ensure the diversity of our student population, I make recruitment travel a priority in my department.
If you are looking for a boarding school, check out the travel section of any school’s website. Look at where they are traveling and see if they are coming to a town near you. It is also a great way to observe where each school recruits. It can tell you a great deal about the diversity and demographics of the school itself.
Good luck and I hope to see you on the road!
