Top Notch Boarding School Basketball Welcomes a High Level Coach
In testament to the strength, and draw, of high quality boarding school basketball, Kevin Boyle- a three time national high school coach of the year- is the new basketball coach at Montverde Academy in Florida.
Taking the Montverde job, Boyle leaves St. Patrick High School (Elizabeth, NJ) where he built a powerful program over his 23 years.
Of Boyle’s St. Patrick’s tenure, Chris Lawlor of The New York Daily writes (Kevin Boyle, longtime coach at St. Patrick in Elizabeth, NJ, is leaving for HS job in Florida):
“Boyle coached St. Patrick to five New Jersey State Tournament of Champions titles and eight parochial championships during his tenure. He sent three players to the NBA and could have at least two more headed there when Duke’s Kyrie Irving and soon-to-be Kentucky freshman Michael Gilchrist become eligible.
The Celtics (26-1) spent several weeks at No. 1 in the national rankings this season but fell in the state final to rival St. Anthony of Jersey City. Earlier this spring, Boyle was linked with the opening at Monmouth University, a job he openly coveted, before falling out of the running.”(NYDL)
In a testament to just how strong a draw high quality boarding school basketball coaching positions have become Lawlor reports that Boyle received a five year contract.
Boyle Inherits a High Quality Program
Montverde has:
“a strong basketball history, having been nationally-ranked several times over the last decade. The program has sent players to school such as UCLA, Auburn, Vanderbilt, George Washington, Washington State, Wake Forest, and VCU. Luc Mbah a Moute, who plays for the Milwaukee Bucks and attended UCLA, is a 2004 graduate of Montverde.”(NYDL)
