Creatively Fulfilling The Assignment: Huck Finn with “Jim’s Song”

Boarding schools do good work encouraging students to fulfill assignments and earn their grades creatively- when the situation allows. Notice, I use the phrase “when the situation allows.” Just because students practice their creativity and expand the notions and ways of answering a question doesn’t mean that rigor and achievement are somehow watered down.

A nice example of students using multiple talents to address an academic question came across my desk last week.

Three St. Andrews-Sewanee School students answered a question in Mr. Dean’s English 11 class with song. Students Anderson, Blount and Evans wrote and performed “Jim’s Song-” a look at life and events on the river from Jim’s perspective

Enjoy, “Jim’s Song: A Musical Response to The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn.”
