Could a Westtown Grad Become The Next Iron Chef?
Tio cites watching Julia Child as well the gift of a knife (with accompanying lessons on its use) from her grandfather as her culinary beginnings.
After graduating from Westown, Tio earned a degree in hotel and restaurant management from Drexel University.
Her time in the kitchen includes stints at Philadelphia’s Ritz-Carlton and Walt Disney World in Orlando. She earned “Chef of the Year” in 2005 by Chef magazine and “Best Chef: Midwest” from the James Beard Foundation in 2007 while at American Restaurant in Kansas City. She opened Julian in 2009.
The season’s first episode of The Next Iron Chef premieres Sunday, October 3.
