Lyman Ward Military Academy Plays Baseball After 25 Year Hiatus
Lyman Ward Military Academy cadets return to the baseball diamond this spring building the new program from scratch.
Lyman Ward coaches and administrators gaged interest and the school fields and 18 player roster filled from 30 players who tried-out.
Head coach Terry Arwood told American Chronicle (PREP BASEBALL: Lyman Ward Returns To Diamond After 25 Years):
“We had to start from scratch…I don’t think we even had a baseball around here. A few softballs, but no baseballs.”
Parents and the school provided equipment and funding and, without a regulation field the school plays no home games and an abbreviated schedule.
The team practices on a less than ideal field that’s- politely put- a bit rough.
Head coach Terry Arwood again:
“That’s one thing we’ve preached here…If you guys can handle infield and outfield here, you should be able to handle it on a real field, too.”
