Worcester Academy Strengthens Its Mission & Commitment to Its Neighborhood
As an urban boarding school, Worcester Academy recently completed a deal adding that rarest of urban commodities- 4 acres of land to the school’s campus.
Combined with an earlier purchase, Worcester now holds 10 acres of space for future use.
The combined land acquisitions represent a 75% size increase beyond Worcester’s main campus. The new space will certainly be in demand as Worcester’s current enrollment of 655 students reflects a more than doubling of student population over the past ten years.
It’s place in the historic Union Hill neighborhood solidified, Worcester is also reaching out to neighbors by making $300,000 of low interest loans available through Worcester Community Housing Resources.
Worcester Academy Board of Trustees President James Pietro commented (Academy Buys Parcel, Makes Loan):
“Worcester Academy takes great pride in being a part of the city of Worcester and a responsible neighbor, especially in these difficult economic times…Last year was our 175th Anniversary as a school and our 140th year atop Union Hill. This purchase, along with our recently initiated loan program, provides us with the opportunity to enhance the educational experience of our students and help stabilize and strengthen our community.”
Worcester’s clearly understands the opportunities and responsibilities involved in being a good neighbor.
