PrepLaxRecruits: A new prep school lacrosse blog!

Prep School Lacrosse

Zack Lehman, head varsity boys lax coach at Gould Academy just started a new prep school lacrosse blog, PrepLaxRecruits. It’s got a good focus and premise as prep school lacrosse folks are a dedicated and focused bunch.

Lehman’s published mission: If you are a boarding school lacrosse coach or a student interested in applying to a boarding school, this blog is designed to provide you with helpful information.

He’s already added a second voice, Jeff Miles, head boys’ varsity lacrosse coach at Christ School and published a nice piece (Top 10 Steps to Recruiting Prep School Lacrosse Players) on ways to raise program visibility.

This is an older piece from laxjournal.com (For Preps), but it fits well with the newer blog above.

Prep schools are a great place to improve your academic and lacrosse prowess. But, as with any educational/serious athletic decisions, there’s much to think about. You don’t just jump into prep school lacrosse. Mike Zhe’s piece provides a good staring point for families entering the prep school picture.

My vote for the most important observation comes from Meghan Cleary, girls lacrosse coach at Noble & Greenough School:

“First and foremost, they need to find a good fit in terms of the school, not lacrosse.  If the school isn’t a good fit, nothing else is going to be, either.”

Education first. Before lacrosse, the education fit must be right.

Susan, there are so many good camps out there it is really hard to recommend just one. It depends on what area of the country you are in, what he's trying to get out of it, and which colleges he's starting to think about. The latest issue of Lacrosse Magazine lists all of the camps – that's a great place to start. My personal favorite – Cardigan Mountain Lacrosse Camp!
