Phillips Andover Academy receives largest ever donation

Phillips-Andover-Academy.jpgAn interesting news item came across the wire yesterday. Oscar Tang, the president of the board of trustees at Phillips Andover Academy, donated $25 million to the school. It’s the largest donation in the school’s 230 year history and will support a number of initiatives including need-blind admission.

This gift dovetails on the recent announcement of the school’s participation in the Davis United World Scholars program. It seems to show a substantial commitment to supporting qualified applicants. Congrats to the folks up at Andover.

Wow.. these is really a big donation that I’ve seen. For sure you use these money for several things especially in improving the academy. Look at now that Academy has a big improvement.

I know Andover and Exeter are about as good as they get when it comes to prepararory schools.
I am shocked that 25 million would be their largest donation ever. The Peddie School
with an enrolment less than half of Andover’s back in 1993 received a 100 million dollar
donation and a few years ago the George School in Penn. received a gift for 129 million.
So relatively speaking this gift is not so great.

    Sincerely, ROBERT TORRES
