Alexis Stevenson, '13, of Summit, New Jersey recently was awarded both a Gold and Silver Award in the Northern NJ Regional Scholastics Arts and Writing Awards competition. Her Gold honor was for her drawing “Withered To Death," a symbolic powdered pastel piece. “The piece was an assignment with the prompt 'What is your biggest fear?' and I chose my grandpa to interpret my biggest fear, death, because he passed away from lung cancer due to smoking,” said Stevenson. The Silver Award went to “Life of Mine” a four-minute art film of moments from her life that Stevenson edited independently of class. Her works were chosen from among 3400 submissions from 900 artists in the Northern New Jersey Region. The work will be displayed at Montclair Art Museum from February 12- March 10 and Stevenson's Gold Honor pastel piece will move on to the Scholastics Art National competition to be adjudicated in March.
