FVS was the defending national champion, and the Danes have placed in the top five in the event the last three years.
The competition was extremely tough in the tightest scoring event in years. More than 60 teams from around the country competed for the coveted title, with perennial favorite Garrison Forest reclaiming the crown. Emy Hanna '09 (Hanover), Sage Hanner '09 (Guffey), Emily Maloof '10 (Monument), Annabel Voorhees '09 (Colorado Springs) and Ryan Haugland '10 (Islip, N.Y.) rode in pursuit of individual and team points in the three-day competition.
Hanner led the Danes by earning seven team points with a first-place finish in the junior varsity on the flat division. Hanna earned three team points with a fourth-place finish in the varsity open over fences division. Maloof earned two more team points with a pair of sixth-place finishes in the varsity intermediate over fences and flat divisions. Haugland earned two team points with a fifth-place finish in the junior varsity novice over fences division.
In individual events, Haugland led the Danes with a second-place finish. Hanna followed with a third-place finish, and Hanner earned a fifth-place finish in her first IEA national event. Additionally, Hanna earned a fifth-place finish in the select varsity open championship, where the highest scoring riders in the top category compete in both flat and jumping events.
The riding team will perform a demonstration at approximately 1 p.m. Saturday, April 26, at the Old 82 Field riding arena during FVS Family Weekend.
Congrats to the riders and coach Ann Hanna!
