Hargrave Military Academy is a private, Christian college preparatory boarding school serving young men from grade seven to one Post-Graduate year. Located in Southwest Virginia, Hargrave offers a 'How to Study' program, discipline and challenging college preparatory classes in a meaningful, structured environment for each student.
The “whole-person” is addressed at Hargrave. Development of personal responsibility, fitness, academic grades and moral character are important goals for each Cadet. Opportunities for personal achievement build a more successful, rewarding future for our students. Hargrave respects people of all faiths and denominations.
Small classes, Individualized Instructions Time (IIT), and advisory program ensure that Cadets remain on a positive academic path geared towards success at the collegiate level. Hargrave maintains an average student-teacher ratio of 11:1, which keeps the focus on the student. Hargrave is a US Naval Academy in Annapolis and US Military Academy in West Point Foundation School.
The Academy maintains accreditation with the Virginia Association of Independent Schools and Southern Association of Colleges and Schools.
Physical exercise and sports are an important part of the Hargrave culture. The Academy fields several athletic teams for all ages and abilities. Recently upgraded sports venues include a 50m indoor pool. Hargrave teams are frequently seen as Virginia Independent Conference champions or contenders.
Acceptance to Hargrave is offered based on the candidates’ previous academic record, standardized test results, teacher recommendations, and a personal interview during a campus visit. Financial aid is available and provided based on both merit and family need.
