Westover Basketball Produces Great Season
2007-2008 Varstiy Basketball

By Tiz Mulligan, Athletic Director

Mar 10, 2008 -- Westover's magical basketball season came to an end one game too soon in the New England Class C Semi-Finals, when the Wildcats faced a formidable opponent, the 19-1 Proctor Academy from Andover, NH, at a game played at Worcester Academy in Worcester, MA on Friday, Feb. 29. Despite a strong effort from Westover’s Wildcats, they lost to the Proctor Hornets by a final score of 69-43.

The Hornets possessed a wide variety of weapons that proved too difficult for the Wildcats to stop. Height, speed and quickness allowed Proctor to hurt Westover from all areas of the court. Domenique Harrison’s 13 first half points (including 7 for 12 at the charity stripe), along with strong defensive play by Kendall Mulligan, who halted several fast breaks, and strong efforts on the boards from both Katherine Dunham (with 6 points and 15 rebounds) and Jenna Littmann (with 7 points and 16 rebounds) kept Westover down by only 9 points at the half, 25-34.

Westover came out of half-time re-energized, getting three consecutive defensive stops, but they came up empty for their efforts. Unfortunately, Westover’s big guns continued to remain silent and the game soon moved out of reach and ended in a 69-43 loss. The Wildcats never gave up and represented Westover extremely well.

Domenique Harrison finished the game with 17 points and Danielle Harrison chipped in 10 points Special thanks to Westover’s Business Manager Steve Ladd for transporting the team, Jim DeMies, Westover’s trainer, for making the trip, and to the fans who traveled to support the girls: faculty and staff members Allen Fitzsimmons, JP Burlington, Steve Divich, Beth Wirsul, Dawn Curtis, along with the many parents who also attended.

Please congratulate this special team: Danielle Harrison ’08, Domenique Harrison ’08, Kendall Mulligan ’08, Kit Nottke ’08, Kelly Pryor ’08, Jenna Littmann ’09, Molly Sheehan ’09, Raina Garcia ’09, Katherine Dunham ’10, Tori Stratton ’10, Sarah Buck ’10, and Banke Otunba-Payne ’11.

Season Accomplishments: a record 16-3, #3 in the Class C New England Championship, the CISAC League Champions, and the CISAC Tournament Champions.
