Northfield Mount Hermon School History
| Founded by celebrated 19th-century evangelist Dwight Lyman Moody as two institutions (Northfield Seminary for Young Ladies in 1879 and Mount Hermon School for Boys in 1881), the schools aimed to educate young people who had limited access to education. 130 years later, NMH offers academic excellence through an award-winning and engaged faculty, world-class resources, and careful attention to each student. These qualities ensure individualized support and instruction. However, the real value of an NMH education arises from our ability to prepare students for life by offering cultural and intellectual diversity; a dynamic and innovative curriculum; breadth of choice via afternoon minor courses, sports, arts, and clubs; and a place where students take on significant responsibility. Our commitment to preparing students for college and for life sets NMH apart. |
