History of the School

Stevenson. It is hard to capture in words, but we’ve chosen a few: Wooded, Surprising, Scholastic, Adventurous, Companionable, Hardworking, Eclectic, Respectful, and Forward-looking. Founded in 1952 as the Del Monte School for Boys, Stevenson School was renamed in 1954 to honor the author Robert Louis Stevenson, who lived in nearby Monterey toward the end of the nineteenth century. The School became coeducational in 1976.
